Mymensingh - where does the name come from?
The shop started in Falmouth and was owned by Fathyma (Suzette's
daughter). The shop traded in gift items from
Bangladesh. Mymensingh is the name of one of the main towns
in the country and the name sounded appropriate for a shop selling
gift items and jewellery.
Trading conditions were poor and Fathyma was forced to
shut her shop in December 2006! Around the same
time, we had purchased a Grade II listed timber framed house in the
centre of the market town of Faversham. The original parts of
the house, including the area used for the shop, date back to the
1580's. The plan was to open a shop selling gift items
from Bangladesh as well as craft products and materials.
The name of the shop "Mymensingh" was transferred to
Faversham.
We moved in during January 2007 and opened the shop for
business in May 2007. We are a local registered stockist for
Design Objectives (Do Craft) and stock ranges from PaperCellar and
Folia Papers by Bringmann.
About Faversham
Faversham, called "the market town of Kings", is an ancient town
situated in north Kent. A town steeped in history, it used to
be a river port and the major manufacturer of gun powder.
Further details of the town can be read on its web-site
Faversham.org. It is the only town in England
permitted to use the monarch's emblem of three lions on its
sign.
Who are we?
Suzette and Michael Booth. We are a husband and wife
team. Suzette spent many years in Bangladesh and knows the
country well. She started card making and craft about 3 years
ago. Her interest grew to such a point that she started a
shop selling items and material!
